Measure before deleting
Use the analyzer to record total entries, group counts, exact duplicate URLs, repeated names, and missing fields. A large count alone does not identify bloat: backups, regional variants, and deliberate duplicate names can be useful. Start with groups you recognize and do not use.
Reduce entries before stripping metadata
Removing unused entries normally saves more than shortening a few attributes. Preserve tvg-id when an EPG depends on it. The Smarters export preset keeps only group-title and tvg-logo from parsed attributes, so it can remove identifiers required by another player. Test presets against a copy.
Know what cleanup cannot fix
A smaller M3U can reduce a player's import, indexing, and navigation work. It does not change stream bitrate, transcode media, repair an HLS manifest, or improve a slow server. If playback buffers after it starts, troubleshoot the authorized URL, network, player, and device separately.
