You can match duplicates in multiple ways: Exact URL matching (keeps unique links), Same Name (removes identical names), or EPG ID matching.

Running a Duplicate Clean with M3U Studio

Upload your playlist, select 'Clean Duplicates', choose a matching strategy, and click optimize. The duplicates will be purged instantly, preserving the primary stream.

Managing Backup Streams

Some providers include backup connections using alternative servers. In this case, do not delete them by name. Use the 'Exact URL' strategy to keep unique streams with identical names.

Performance Benefits of Deduplication

Deduplication reduces the number of entries a player must index and display, but the effect varies by player, device, EPG integration, and playlist structure. M3U Studio does not benchmark the target device or guarantee a percentage improvement. Compare file size and entry count before and after, then test the result in your player.

Know which first entry will survive

All current duplicate strategies keep the first matching item in playlist order and remove later matches. URL mode compares the URL string. Name mode trims and lowercases the display name. TVG-ID mode falls back to URL when tvg-id is absent. NameGroup combines the name and group values.

Aggressive mode combines name, URL, and tvg-id, so it only removes entries where that entire composite repeats; it is not fuzzy matching. Reorder or inspect the source first when you care which metadata survives.
